AMD HD2600/2400 preview
- Testbed setup
Author: Vedran Dakic Date: 08 Jun 2007
To preview these cards, we used a bit different testbed, just to be a bit more human because people won't buy these cards for high-end computers:
- ASUS M2N32-SLI
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
- OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-8000
- OCZ GameXstream 1010W
- WD RaptorX 150GB
- Dell 30" LCD
We used AMD's super-duper almost-latest 8.37rc2 (amd_rv610_rv630_8.37rc2_xp_br46279) drivers. We also know that AMD already has a bit newer (8.38RC7) driver, but at time when we were testing they were still unavailable (before May 22nd). We'll make sure to do some retesting very, very soon. This RC2 thing points out to Release Candidate, and also points to some of the reasons why we couldn't make some games work at all. Well, development process is still taking place in "background". We hope it will bring drivers without strange behaviour, drops and peaks in performance and strange blue screens as a "random" feature. Remember, it's not a bug, it's a feature...
Also, we took the liberty of comparing these two cards with X1800GTO, 8500GT, 8600GT, 8600GTS
and 7900GS. Just to see where it stands right now in terms of general performance comparison with
- well, competition...
