MSI RX1900XTX-VT2D512E review
Author: Vedran Dakic Date: 11 May 2006
Today, we'd like to take a look at MSI's fastest X1900 card - MSI RX1900XTX-VT2D512E. Having
tested some X1900 XTX cards (from Club3d, Sapphire and ASUS), there were a couple of expectations about
this card - where it should be performance-wise, of course. Performance of these cards is pretty much
the same, so we compared it with 7900GTX card. If you take a look at not-so-distant-past, from X8xx series to X1xxx series, ATi really moves
pretty fast. Although the same can't be said about Crossfire (the first revision was very late, and these days finding a master card isn't an easy job), X1xx series really came fast after the previous generation and brought quite a bit of interesting changes. Some more positive (performance, technology), and some more negative (cooler noise, heating). Meanwhile nVIDIA introduced the 7900-series, along with the Quad SLI (7900GX2, 7950GX2), that are either very competitive or better then 1900-series (depending on the testbed setup, resolution, ANISO and testing procedures). This card has a standard dual-slot cooling solution that can become pretty noisy when you put the system under serious load.
Here's a nice picture of the card from the back:

We used our standard testbed configuration:
- AMD Athlon 64 FX-60
- DFI Lanparty UT SLI-DR
- OCZ Platinum Rev. 2, 2x512 MB
- WD Raptor 36 GB
- OCZ Powerstream 600W
We have to point out that we did the 7900GTX review with AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ CPU, while we used the FX60 for this review. At publishing time, we had no 7900GTX cards in our lab to re-run the tests with FX60, so please be careful and take the results with caution as FX60 is quite a bit faster then 4400+...
