8800GTX review - part 2 - SLI
Author: Luka Rakamaric Date: 01 Dec 2006
For part two of our ongoing 8800-series saga, we prepared another round of tests with SLI configuration. So, this time around we tested with four resolutions, 1280x1024, 1600x1200, 1920x1200 and 2560x1600, and three modes, 4xAA, 8xAA and 16xAA. You can see how the card?s performance scales with increased loading, and decide what?s best for your PC and the settings you will play in. We've been extremely thorough with testing of these cards - which further goes to show how much we actually respect this product. So, read on, our race has barely begun...
We replaced the Quake4 benchmark with Prey, which uses the same engine, and added Company of Heroes, which is very demanding on the graphic subsystem, as you'll be able to see in the next section. Also, we did two series of graphs - sorted by AA/AF settings and sorted by resolutions. We believe there are people who prefer one way and people who prefer the other way of presenting this so - we've got you all covered.
For running 8800GTX in SLI, we also added another PSU, just to be sure - it was OCZ's Modstream. Either way, we didn't have enough PCI-E power connectors on one PSU or enough 12V connectors to "adapt" them to that, so this was the best possible choice. Also, in part three, you can expect us to add results for 8800GTS in single/SLI mode, as well as results on 7900GTX and X1950XTX in single and dual card configurations. So, be sure to drop by next week. You'll be in for a huge surprise.
