On the outside, the card has two DVI-I connectors, both dual-link, and one 7 pin S-Video that can be transformed into many things with an included dongle.
As with any other 4000 series card, there is a full support for DirectX10.1, which was introduced with Vista SP1. The RV740 also has the now standard UVD (Universal Video Decoder) 2.0, capable of acceleratingVC-1 and H.264 decoding. However, that’s only for Blu-ray and HD-DVD, so no x.264 from .mkv containers usually found on the web. Again, as with all ATI hardware from the 2000 series, there’s also a built in audio processor, which enables audio over HDMI.
We've used our regulart test setup to put this card through its paces:
- Intel Core 2 QX9650
- ASUS Striker II Extreme 790i
- OCZ PC3-16000 Reaper 2x2 GB
- PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW-SR
- Western Digital RaptorX
- HP LP 3065
Also, we benchmarked on three of the most popular resolutions used today, 16x10 and 19x12. It is the most common on 90% of the LCD screens today, ranging from 20’’ to 24’’.
