OCZ Z-drive review - Discussion, Conclusion

Saying that this device is insane is just barely scratching the surface. I'm sure many of devices like this will appear on the market sooner or later, but for the time being, this is an absolute speed king. Average reads over 700MB/s, average write speeds over 600MB/s (consistent!) just blew my mind. And best read scores over 900MB/s is just... insane. How can you not give an Editor's choice to such a product? Except for the fact that it's still in testing phase and that it will take some time for the finished product to see the light of day? And yes, this is the only reason why it doesn't make sense for us to award this superb product.

The second thing, and it's after a few discussions that I'm saying this.... this product really isn't the best thing to use RAID 0, and the reasoning behind this is very clear. RAID 5 or some RAID 6 combinations with possible variations on the "parity" theme (translation: product positioning for database servers: RAID controller with parity calculations "onboard", product position for web servers: RAID controller without "onboard" parity checking) would make perfect sense. People from OCZ are very aware of this and after discussing the subject with them I'm very sure that this is gonna be a kickass product for many markets. Can't wait to see it in stores, guys!
