DDR3 has already entered the market, but that doesn?t mean that DDR2 has come to end of life. Actually, we might say that DDR2 is living through its best days. It has superb performance over available DDR3 modules, it is cheap and it works on all platforms available. Today we are testing OCZ DDR2 PC2-9200 Reaper HPC Edition, a high speed kit with innovative cooling solution.

OCZ DDR2 PC2-9200 Reaper HPC Edition is guaranteed to operate at 1150MHz 5-5-5-18 at 2.3V. Like most high speed kits, these modules are built around Micron D9GMH (B6-3) chips. What makes these modules special is the cooling solution based on heat pipe technology. Heat pipes have been used on a variety of hardware like motherboards, graphics cards, cpu coolers etc. Since the technology proved to be worthy it was just a matter of time before someone came up with the idea of implementing them on memory modules. Since OCZ already came out with some wicked cooling solutions (water cooled memory modules) we are not surprised that it was OCZ that used the heat pipe technology to cool memory modules. With high (if not extreme) operating voltages high speed modules use these days any attempt to increase the cooling performance is welcome. Not to mention that this cooling solution looks really cool.
