On the 9th of this month NVIDIA launched nForce 680i SLI, a new chipset for Intel processors. At that time we were only able to inform you on what the specifications of the chipset were, today we are able to tell you all about the board and its performance. We?ll be focusing on the specific board and its performance, for more information on the chipset and its features be sure to read ourTech preview. We tested EVGA nForce 680i SLI board, one of the first to hit the market. We heard some pretty confident statements about this chipset and its performance comparing to the competition, let?s see if those were true.
This EVGA board comes in a large box that is full of logos and actually looks quite impressive. The size of it can be compared to DFI nForce4 SLI-DR?s box, we?d say about 2 times a volume of a standard motherboard box. It?s bundled with loads of cables, power adapters and brackets, enough to cover all the connectors on the board so you won?t have to buy and additional cabling. Apart from that there is a small box that holds a vent for those that decide to overclock and desire improved chipset cooling. There is also a folder that holds user?s manual, driver CD, RAID driver floppy and quick installation guides on several languages. Under the first layer lies the board in a sponge bed, something not often seen and definitely welcome since it gives you some extra confidence that your board wasn?t jumping around in a box during transport. The board itself is an NVIDIA reference design board, but don?t think that?s a setback because from what we have heard from so far it should be an excellent product.
