Edimax EW-7206PDg review - Additional features

With WDS, you'll be able to expand your network without a sweat. In this mode, EW-7206PDg acts as a wireless AP and repeater at the same time. Extremely useful when you want to have a bigger wireless network coverage. On the other hand, there's AP client mode, where you force this device to act as a gateway/router between wired and wireless networks. We had a chance to try both of these modes in action, and didn't find a single problem with them. Hats off.

Then there's POE feature. Most of users out there won't be able to use this feature, like ever, but still it's a good thing that it's there. It might help you deal with cabling when using this device on a company network. As far as coverage is concerned, the supplied 4dBi antenna does the job very good. If you want to change it, you can do it without any problems as it is detachable. With a phone call to a friend who lives across the park (some 70m distance), we were able to set up a wireless connection in a couple of minutes. Now I have to see if that bugger is still abusing my Internet connection! :-) Back panel - (detachable) antenna connector (RP-SMA), reset button, 10/100 connector and DC adapter port. On the front, three LED's - PWR, WLAN and LAN. Watch out for default IP adress (192.168.2.1/0), for easy web-based setup. You also get a CD with manuals (actually there are a couple of manuals here, for a couple of other devices, as well) and wall-mount "kit" (additional screws and stuff). What we'd also like to see there is an Ethernet cable. Just in case someone needs it.
